Questioning Christianity: Is There More to the Story?
Questioning Christianity: Is There More to the Story?
Dan Paterson and Rian Roux have the bird's eye roadmap you need. After many years of pastoral, evangelistic, and campus ministry, they know the questions people are asking. The skeptic, the seeker, the new believer... they all want some real answers. Not slogans. Not politics. Not simple solutions to complex problems. The person who's getting to know Christianity wants the big picture of what it's all about. Who is God? What is he up to in the world? Where is he taking it? And how is Jesus the centrepiece of the divine plan to offer hope to the human race amid so much suffering?
These issues-and many others-can be found in Questioning Christianity. It's an accessible overview of the Christian faith and way of life.
It's easily the best book (that I've found) to give to friends that are exploring Christianity. Helpfully covering what is the Christian story, what does it mean to personally live out the story and what are common objections to the story. It's written in a beautiful simple way that still manages to convey the depth of the Christian story. Would definitely recommend!
Dan and Rian have done a wonderful job of painting a beautiful picture of the Christian story in a way that will not only make sense to someone with minimal exposure to Christian things, but also in an incredibly appealing and winsome way. They then move on to challenge the read to consider what it might mean to step into the story themselves, to choose to become a follow of Jesus, again painting a beautiful picture of what this would mean for them. They also recognise that at different points in someone's spiritual journey, they will inevitably come up against some barriers that might halt their pursuit of truth, and so spend the third section of the book simply and succinctly addressing some of the more common objections or barriers people face before pointing them to other resources that would flesh out the answers to those objections.
All in all, an excellent resource to give to anyone who might be searching, or even a new believer trying to make sense of their new faith and how it fits in the big story of God's involvement in the world. Highly recommend!
