Description
A reproductive health program that has reduced maternal mortality rates from 336 to 21 in 100,000 live births.
Margaret Rutherford was a spirited 17-year-old, uncertain of her future until nursing beckoned - a decision that would save thousands of lives. Her journey began in Aurakun, Queensland, where her compassion for the disadvantaged led her to care for First Nations people. Her experience there, and later in Yirrkala, Northern Territory, where she raised a family and shared her nursing skills, ignited a lifelong commitment to service.
But Marg's story didn't end in Australia. She and her husband John moved to Uganda, where Marg's reproductive health program dramatically reduced infant and maternal mortality. Her legacy continues to flourish.
